Three days ago, I heard a bird calling that sounded like a 15# Junko and after
a brief search, I found a Brown Thrasher in the Buffaloberry shrubs. Andrew &
Richter's "Colorado Birds" says that this bird is very rare in the foothills
and mountains during migration. Rare or not...I am thrilled with our latest
new yard bird! It is still here. I bolted out the door this AM to feed my
chickens and it flushed from the Waxberry near our deck. This afternoon it is
feeding in the tall grasses by our garden.

Evening Grosbeaks have been coming to the feeders for 3 weeks now. My husband
calls them "our parrots" and it is good to have them back with us after many
years of seeing perhaps one or two a year.

Another species that has been absent for many years is the Golden-crowned
Kinglet. Well, they're back! A flock feeds in the pines near our house from
time to time.

Smiles,
