The NOCO Big Sit! held at my house in Loveland was a big success. The
cold finally drove us to our warm homes around 2:00. I went out to
the circle several more times throughout the afternoon and did add
Pine Siskin to the list. We beat our last years total of 27 by 12
species with a total of 39, one bird shy of our goal. Not bad
considering the weather! We missed some easy birds, American
Goldfinch, Red-tailed Hawk and Downy Woodpecker. Some nice surprises
were Mountain Chickadee, Greater Yellowlegs and a mixed flock of
grebes. Ann Donoghue, Kathleen Dowd, Lauren Burke and later Denise
Bretting and I were our team of the day. We had a fire and coffee
going the whole time, Kathleen brought some tasty Wasail. Al made us
tasty bagels for breakfast, I made turkey and swiss grilled / burnt
for lunch. Amazing what tastes good when you're cold.
