Hello, Birders. Just a reminder: The ongoing Colorado Breeding Bird Atlas project features a quarterly newsletter, available for free from the project website. Here's the current newsletter (Fall 2009): http://tiny.cc/1g561
Lots of cool stuff in there. I was especially interested in the article comparing Dickcissel breeding in Colorado between the two Atlases. Yes, Dickcissels were recorded as breeders by both Atlas efforts, but there's been a range shift. Check out the online newsletter, and see for yourself. Here's a directory of all newsletters (seven ths far): http://tiny.cc/bbiFc Check 'em all out! I just happened to click on the Winter 2008-2009 newsletter, and I fascinated by this list of the Top 10 breeders in Colorado in terms of number of blocks in which confirmed. I'll supply 8 of the top 10. And I'll leave out 2 others as "mystery birds." Here goes: 1. American Robin. 2. House Wren. 3. MYSTERY BIRD. Can you guess?? 4. MYSTERY BIRD. Can you guess?? 5. European Starling. 6. Dark-eyed Junco. 7. Northern Flicker. 8. Red-winged Blackbird. 9. Barn Swallow 10. Western Meadowlark. My guess is that nobody will get both 3 and 4 right without looking. Take your best guess, then check out that Winter 2008-2009 newsletter, and see if you were right. Finally, here here's the Atlas homepage: http://tiny.cc/XORi2 Enjoy! ------------------------------- Ted Floyd [email protected] Lafayette, Boulder County, Colorado ------------------------------- Ted Floyd Editor, Birding ------------------------------- Please support the American Birding Association: Click on http://www.goodsearch.com/?charityid=884482 to search the internet.
