About 1 pm I saw a first winter Harris's Sparrow in my yard today. The bird was associating with juncos in the chicken yard eating cracked corn. I left to go for a walk right after spotting it and haven't seen it since I returned. I also saw a late/possibly overwintering Say's Phoebe on the walk. This is at least the fourth time I have seen Harris's Sparrow in my yard, but it has been two years or so since the last one.
Also, I recently discovered that my yard will be on the southwest Colorado Birding Trail when that is officially opened. Anyone is welcomed to stop by if you just happened to be in Poania! Warning: you may be asked to help dig potatoes or harvest zucchini if we are out working in the fields.
