Huerfano County didn't make the rare-bird list, but I wanted to let
folks know
that the Rosy-finches continue to come to my yard in La Veta...in
Huerfano
County. All three species are present, in predictable percentages
(mostly Brown
and Grays, a few Blacks.) I'd say 100+ are here again, right now…five
days in a
row.

Across town, my friend Polly has had 3 Blue Jays, up to 5 Western
Scrub-jays, 1
Steller's Jay, between 40 and 50 Pinyon Jays that visited several
times over the
last three days.

While I've had many Blue Jays and even a Steller here and there…for
some reason
I've never seen Pinyon or Scrub jays in my yard. We live about a mile
apart!
I'm so happy the Pinyon Jays are here in such numbers (even if I don't
see `em.)
Oddly, I feed meat scraps and kibble, I have as many as 13 Magpies and
a couple
crows here…but not so many jays. Do the bigger Corvids keep them away?

Polly also has recently noted White-throated and Song sparrows…and a
Northern
Shrike hunting her feeders.

Oh, and if anybody needs a White-winged Dove for some list…that one
that's
hanging around is still here (and healthy).

Call me if you'd like to bird in my yard…the Rosies are quite tame!
