At 8:45 this frigid, sunny morning, a flock of 15 crossbills fed atop the big
spruce just west of the Grandview Cemetery entrance (Sections F, E, G, and C).
The pair of White-winged Crossbills was embedded with the group, the rest being
Red Crossbills (Type 5). No singing, courting, or sparking noted today by
either crossbill species, just single-purposed feeding. The Christmas Count is
10 days away.

Also, considerable Red-breasted Nuthatch, Mountain Chickadee, Brown Creeper,
and Dark-eyed Junco activity in these same trees. I have NOT seen the
Golden-crowned Kinglet female in about a week, but as inconspicuous as she can
be, there's a possibility she's still around. My guess is she's gone. There
was a male American Kestrel sentinal atop one of the big spruce, which is not
all that common at Grandview.

CORRECTION: In my post yesterday I talked about an Eastern Screech-Owl along
the biketrail near Lemay and Mulberry (SR14). The general location should read
SOUTHEAST of that intersection, not what I said yesterday. I would never
intentionally send anyone to Walmart.
