Highlights of a brief visit with just over one day of birding:

Northern Cardinal (1 pair at south end of Lamar Community College Woods, just 
north of the first house)

Brown Thrasher (1, same location)

Red-bellied Woodpecker (1 or 2 males, one at south end of LCC Woods, one at 
Fairmount Cemetery)

Harris's Sparrow (1 at CR13 bridge over Ark River e of town, 4+ at Prowers 
Bridge over Ark River w of town)

LINCOLN"S SPARROW (1 at Prowers Bridge over Ark River)

Spotted Towhee (2 at Prowers Bridge over Ark River)

Merlin (1 prairie race, big feedlot n of town on US287/50)

White-winged Dove (1 in Willow Valley Subdivision)

Pine Siskin (several, but not huge numbers anywhere)

"White" Geese (about 5000, mostly Snows, east of Ark River Bridge/Carder Gravel 
Ponds at north end of Main Street in Lamar)

Greater Scaup (1f at Carder Gravel pond just s of Ark River on the bridge at n 
end of Main Street)

Redhead (3 at Carder Gravel pond s of Ark River "    "    ")

Lapland Longspur (many, many in with Horned Larks on CRs east of May Valley 
north of town)

Mountain Bluebird (few along May Valley road n of town, saw a Northern Harrier 
eating one!)

Total of 56 species (my guess is 65 or 70 spp. are present, maybe even more)

 

Major shedding of juniper berries following the sub-zero temps, providing a 
feast on the ground for robins, starlings, flickers, etc., esp. at Fairmount 
Cemetery.  

 

no Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers at Fairmount or Willow Creek Park

no Golden-crowned Kinglets at Fairmount Cemetery

no Carolina Wren or Winter Wren at LCC/Willow Creek

no Swamp Sparrow at Willow Creek

no Yellow-rumped Warblers or Ruby-crowned Kinglets anywhere

no Northern Mockingbird

no shrikes
