I got some good photos of the female Yellow-bellied and male Red-naped
Sapsuckers I found at the Abbey a week ago (but I have been behind). I now
have posted them on my blog at http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com including
some pretty interesting views.

In the past week I also found fresh sap wells on one pine tree in Rouse Park
in Canon City as well as in a pine tree at a private residence about a mile
from that park. I suspect that one of the Abbey sapsuckers have been
foraging in these trees--the Abbey is maybe 1.5-2 miles away from these
trees (as the sapsucker flies). In past years I have seen similar limited
fresh sap wells made by sapsuckers that apparently have traveled to these
areas to forage. I have also found fresh sap wells in the pine trees in
Lions Park in Florence, a location that has hosted sapsuckers in the past,
but have not seen the bird.
