All DFO members are encouraged to participate in the annual Denver
Christmas Bird Count (CBC) sponsored by the Denver Field
Ornithologists and the National Audubon Society. To participate, call
one of the Area Leaders listed below to assist in a particular area,
or call the Count Leader if you would like to help in an area that
still needs additional observers. As can be seen on the list, there
are still several areas that do not have leaders and will not be
covered unless volunteers are found to help out. If you would be
willing to lead in one of these areas, please call the Count Leader as
soon as possible. After a day in the field, all participants are
invited to attend the short compilation meeting to warm up, chat with
other birders, and find out how the count fared. It is a lot of fun.
Fees: Each observer over the age of 18 must pay a $5.00 fee to
participate in the Denver CBC. Participants should pay the $5.00 fee
to their Area Leader before taking part in the Count. Checks should be
made payable to National Audubon Society, not to DFO.
Pre-counts: Area Leaders are encouraged to conduct pre-counts in their
areas, particularly if unfamiliar with the area. Since days and times
of pre-counts will vary, contact an Area Leader if you wish to assist
on a pre-count in a particular area. There is no fee for participating
in a pre-count.
