A very friendly and cooperative American Three-toed Woodpecker was relocated by myself, my son Kyle, and Paul Differding today along Hwy 67 west of Sedalia, on the north side of the road, and only about 0.2 miles east of the intersection with Rampart Range Road. Loch Kilpatrick & Glenn Walbek originally located 2 of the birds in this area, but I could only find one today, although there was a Hairy Woodpecker in the immediate vicinity as well.
By the way, what's the currently correct name for this species? After checking 5 field guides, BNA Online, and eBird, there seems to be substantial discrepancy within the references. During my searches, I found both "American Three-toed Woodpecker", with the banding code ATTW, and "Three-toed Woodpecker", with the banding code TTWO.
