As I have seen posts about out of state sightings of extremely rare birds on
Cobirds in past, I will update Colo folks. The likely first US record
Bare-throated Tiger-Heron is still being seen at least once a day at the
Bentsen-Rio Grande State Park. Though the most frequent observations have
been in the almost dark, it has been seen flying several times in the
daylight including killer views by a group of us Christmas Day. It has been
awhile since I have chased anything real rare--it is exciting and quite a
rush when you see the bird.

The habitat is very good so I think there is a good chance it will stay
around as long as it is in areas with almost no human disturbance. I have
posted a series of good photos I took yesterday on my blog at
http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com
<http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com%20>as well as more info about state park
rules and amenities. Let me know if you have any questions as I will be in
the Lower Rio Grande Valley for another week or so.
