I have posted a few more photos of the subadult California Gull sporting the
black tail from Erie, Colorado (Boulder County) taken on 26 Dec 2009, at the
link provided below. Also at this link are photos of other interesting gulls
including the youngster Great Black-backed Gull, an adult Lesser Black-backed
Gull, an adult Glaucous Gull, Thayer's Gulls, a probable hybrid gull, and a
possible adult Vega Gull. Brief background info on Vega Gull status and
distribution is provided in the link. Comments welcome. Here is the link:

Note: I have no previous experience with Vega Gull, so I will consult the gull
experts on ID Frontiers. If there is concensus for an identity of the candidate
Vega Gull, I will inform this list. Also, while only one is photodocumented,
from late Saturday afternoon at Erie Reservoir, there were two adults present
together at that location Saturday mid-morning. These are gulls that are
slightly darker gray-mantled than Herring Gull (like some Thayer's Gulls),
dark-eyed (like Thayer's) and but with wing-tips dark like Herring Gulls (i.e.
not obviously paler like most Thayer's).
