This morning, I spent 90 minutes in 3 areas around Silverthorne. The first
stop was the Wildernest area where ³highlights² were 7 Pygmy Nuthatches and
a flyover Red Crossbill. Grosbeaks, Nutcrackers and other finches have been
noticeably absent the past couple of weeks. Second stop was in the
Hummingbird Circle area where I came across a beautiful male Cassin¹s Finch
perched atop a coniferous tree. My final stop was at the Blue River
Treatment Plant where there were 8 species of ducks. My eBird report is
below:

Location: Blue River Water Treatment Plant
Observation date: 1/10/10

Notes: AMWI was a drake and FOS here for me. There were 81 Goldeneye
species. Based on a detailed analysis I did this past Thursday, where I had
a 62% BAGO and 38% COGO split and my gut look today, I used a 60-40 split
for the 2 Goldeneye sps. It is interesting to see the molting on first year
males. Females sorted by combo of head shape primarily and bill
secondarily.
Number of species: 9

Gadwall 9
American Wigeon 1
Mallard 35
Green-winged Teal 12
Ring-necked Duck 10
Bufflehead 3
Common Goldeneye 32
Barrow's Goldeneye 49
Black-billed Magpie 1
