Cobirders,
When the red-shouldered hawk finally made a mistake, after three days,
he flew into my field of view about 11:00 today (Sorry about the late
news--I thought I sent the message from my phone). I saw it from the
Poudre Trail, about 1/2 mile from the paved parking lot. The trail goes
east, then curves south. As it curves to the east again, the RSHa was
visible across the river. He quickly flew west and landed, then west
again toward the meadow reached by the unpaved parking lot (1/2 mile
south of the paved lot off Rt. 257). In leaving, I saw Cole Wild and
his brother, whom I tried to direct to the likely spot. I'm hoping they
had success, as Cole was trying to hook his brother into some
excitement about birding. Since they started by seeing the snowy owl
earlier today, Cole seems to be doing about as well as possible.
