Hi folks,

Just before noon today, on my second try, I saw the Red-shouldered Hawk in Windsor. It was behaving as previously described, moving from tree to tree about every 1-2 minutes, in the same location as previously described, all around the meadow with the bench at Kodak State Wildlife Area as well as just across the river along the Poudre Trail.

Also in the area was one definite "Eastern" White-breasted Nuthatch giving its burry nasal single-syllable "yank" call, quite different from the "b'da-b'da-b'da-b'da" or "brrrrrr brrrrrr brrrrrr" of Rocky Mountain birds. This is the farthest west I've ever encountered an Eastern White-breasted Nuthatch, although I know they've been seen along the Front Range before (and I seem to recall that Dave Leatherman once had one at this same location, but he can correct me if I'm wrong).

For those who are interested, I discussed how to differentiate the three forms of White-breasted Nuthatch on my blog a while back:
