I read, with interest, the article SeEtta Moss linked about Snowy Owls migrating south because of population pressures in the Arctic. I have a question regarding such migrants. If they have been forced southward due to population pressure, what is the prognosis for a bird like this? Has anyone banded such migrants with any luck in learning their outcome? Is it possible this bird could make it back to the Arctic and somehow survive, despite the reasons it is here, now? I realize these seem like very loaded questions.....and perhaps rather jaded ones. I hope the best for this bird. I don't know if I'll get the chance to see it, much less photograph it.....and I feel we are all so privileged to have this opportunity without financing a trip to Churchill or Barrow......but I feel for the bird under the best of circumstances, and felt I just must ask the question.
