This afternoon, I ran up to Genesis Mountain Park and had great looks at Red
Crossbills, Red-breasted Nuthatches, Pygmy Nuthatches, Mountain Chickadees,
Dark-eyed Juncos, and a flock of more than 50 Cassin's Finches feeding on the
ground. I have never seen such a large flock of these birds. After that, I
ran to Denver West to see if I could find any Yellow-rumped or an
Orange-crowned Warblers seen a month and a half ago....I was unable to find
either. This is the first time in years that I have been unable to find a
Yellow-rumped Warbler this time of the year in the park. Instead, I had great
looks at a Hermit Thrush on the east side of Denver West near the statue and
the small bridge. Last week, I had between 4-6 Golden-crowned Kinglets working
the pines in the park. You never know what you will find in this great habitat
in the middle of a business park! I will add Crossbill and the Thrush photo to
the site below.
