Adams County: --A male Barrow's Goldeneye was reported by Lechleitner by the water tower on January 10. On January 18, Niyo reported 1 male Barrow's Goldeneye on West Gravel Lake and a pair of Barrow's Goldeneyes on the Platte north of the green water tower. Baca County: --At Two Buttes Leatherman reported 1 Carolina Wren on a hillside south of first pond to east of dam and 1 m Red-bellied Woodpecker. On January 18, Riffe reported a Carolina Wren on the west end near the road. Bent County: --At John Martin Reservoir on January 18, Riffe reported a f Long-tailed Duck and a flyover BRANT. Boulder County: --An ad Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Klaver at Waneka Lake in Lafayette on January 17. Delta County: --8 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Beason at Confluence Park on the Gunnison River from the public parking lot on January 19. On January 20, Garrison reported 12 Barrow's Goldeneyes at Confluence Park. Denver County: --A pair of Barrow’s Goldeneye was reported by Henwood along the S. Platte River just north of the bridge on W. Evans Ave on December 14. On January 19, Thornton-Kolbe reported the male Barrrow's Goldeneye north of the Florida Bridge. El Paso County: --A SNOWY OWL was reported by Cipoletti on Hwy 24 east of Elbert Road on December 27. Cipoletti refound the owl in the same area on January 8. Many birders saw the owl on January 10. Directions: On Hwy 24 drive east of Falcon to the first road east of Elbert Road, Scott Road W. Turn south, turn right at next intersection, and right again onto Prairie View Lane. Check roof tops and fence posts anywhere in area. Look for whitewash on rooftops for favored perches. Thanks to Bill Maynard for posting the information. On January 20, Lee reported that owl was seen in the same neighborhood. El Paso/Pueblo Counties: --Maynard reported a Harris's Sparrow on the Chico Basin Ranch winter count on January 15. Garfield County: --36 Barrow's Goldeneye were reported by Filby at Coryell Ranch Ponds in Carbondale on January 17. Grand County: --Rosy-Finches were reported by Deininger in Kremmling at 9th and Grand on November 25. Pieplow found 1 ad Black, Gray-crowned and Hepburns on January 16. Jefferson County: --A juv GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW was reported by Brown behind the Trading Post at Red Rocks on December 19 and was seen by several birders. The sparrow was seen on January 20 by Sanders. Birders suggest taking birdseed and scattering it to attrack the birds. Kiowa County: --A m Northern Cardinal was reported by Riffe at Nenoshe Reservoir on January 18. Larimer County: --A pair of White-winged Crossbills was reported by Leatherman in Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins on November 22. Leatherman reported the pair was seen in the west end of Section 9 in the morning and south part of Section 1 in the afternoon on January 18. --A Muscovy Duck was reported by Coley at Lake Loveland on January 15 and 16. Pitkin County: --Rosy-Finches Brown-capped, Gray-crowned and a few Hepburns were reported by Filby at Snowmass Ski Area on January 17. They are seen at the top of the Village Express chairlift, $26 ticket. Prowers County: --At Lamar Community College Woods on January 10, Leatherman reported 1 Carolina Wren, a pair of Northern Cardinals, and a m Red-bellied Woodpecker. Oswald also had a male Northern Cardinal on January 10. Riffe reported Red-bellied Woodpecker and Carolina Wren at LCCW on January 18. --A mixed flock of Horned Larks, Lapland Longspurs and McCown's Longspurs was reported by Riffe on the north side of CR B.5 at Two Buttes SWA on January 18. Pueblo County: --At Pueblo Reservoir on January 12, Percival reported 1 ad Glaucous Gull, 1 ad Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 ad GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL, and 1 2nd-cycle Thayer's Gull. The Glaucous Gull and Thayer's Gull were at the South Shore Marina tires and the Lesser Black-backed and GREAT BLACK-BACKED Gulls were in the se corner of the reservoir. On January 18, Riffe reported 1 ad GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL and 2 ad Thayer's Gulls at Pueblo Reservoir at the South Shore Marina. --A 1st year f PINE WARBLER was reported by Percival at Pueblo City Park in pine just east of Duck Pond. It was with Golden-crowned Kinglet, Brown Creeper, Red-breasted Nuthatch and Juncos. Summit County: --About 85 Barrow's Goldeneyes were reported by Nims at the Blue River (Silverthorne) Water Treatment Plant on December 28. On January 17, Wilberding reported 1 male Barrow's Goldeneye with several females at the water treatment plant. Weld County: --An imm RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was reported by DeFonso at the Kodak SWA near Windsor on January 6. It was discovered earlier by Elens. The hawk is moving around. On January 18, Drummond and Gallagher reported the RED-SHOULDERED HAWK at the Kodak SWA. The DFO Field Trip for Saturday, January 23 will be to Rocky Mountain Arsenal led by David Rhoades (303-424-8633). Must register with leader for time and directions for this trip with limited number of participants. The DFO Field Trip for Sunday, January 24 will be to the Longmont Area led by Chris Owens (303-772-6048). Meet at 0830 at Jim Hamm Nature Center. >From I-25 take Exit 240. Go west 4 miles on CO 119 to Boulder/Weld County Line Road, then 2 miles north to park on left at E 17th Ave. Bring lunch as trip will end about 1 or 2 depending on weather and birds. State Parks Pass may be needed.
