The Fort Collins Audubon Soc. Mtn. Bird Trip led by me was attended by 10 great folks yesterday. We had high winds, high spirits and low temperatures. We still wound up with a great bird list for the day. Notable misses were the Evening Grosbeaks and Rosy Finches - the latter gave us a tantalizing glimpse as it floated away high with the snow flakes in Allenspark.
High point of the day was at the Lawrence's feeders in Ward where we were gloriously entertained by a flock of TWENTY-FIVE Pine Grosbeaks and that many or more Steller's Jays.
We had high numbers of Mountain Chickadees, Hairy Woodpeckers and Steller's Jays also in both locations.
We visited a couple of parks in Lyons, the feeders in Ward, BCR 100, and Allenspark. We stopped to warm up with a great lunch at Meadow Mountain Cafe, (they were expecting us).
Here is our bird list of the day. Bald Eagle Steller's Jay Clark's Nutcracker Mountain Chickadee Black-capped Chickadee Hairy Woodpecker Pine Grosbeak Common Raven Am.
