Hi all, On Wednesday I was at Snowmass ski area and saw just 2 Gray-crowned Rosy Finches (interior form) at the bird feeder at the top of Sam's Knob. Seems snowy days are the best by far (Wednesday was 'warm' and sunny). Neither bird was banded. I have seen several birds this winter with color and metal bands. Also on the hill I saw several Pine Grosbeaks, many Gray Jays - most especially at the above feeder and at the Cafe Susanne restaurant deck which is getting at least 10 around lunchtime - good pickings these warm days when folks are eating outside more. The bird feeder at the top of the Elk Meadows magic carpet had plenty chickadees (mostly Mountain) as well as Steller's Jays, Pine Grosbeak, Red-breasted Nuthatch and Pine Squirrel. I did not see the Pine Marten that is a regular - but only occasional - visitor there.
Downvalley yesterday, Thursday, there were 103 Barrow's Goldeneyes near Carbondale at the Coryell Ranch ponds roost, observed, without disturbance, from the Hwy82 frontage road. The only other birds on the pond were 2 Common Goldeneye, 4 Ring-necked Ducks, 5 Green-winged Teal and 2 Gadwall. The adult Trumpeter Swan (of presumed feral origin) was not present yesterday. Good birding all Dick Filby Carbondale -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Colorado Birds".
