I went birding in the southwest suburban Denver area on Saturday, February 27 -- Jefferson County near Chatfield Reservoir and in Waterton Canyon.
I was able to identify a Great Horned Owl nest about 0.5 miles south of the intersection of Wadsworth Boulevard (Colorado 121) and West Trailmark Parkway -- on the west side of Wadsworth. Great Horned Owl: http://picasaweb.google.com/timshel40/ChatfieldFebruary272010# I was also able to identify an American Dipper in Waterton Canyon -- skimming areas of the river 1-2 miles from the Waterton Canyon trailhead (old Kassler water treatment plant). American Dipper: http://picasaweb.google.com/timshel40/WatertonCanyonFebruary272010# Also seen in Waterton Canyon: Spotted Towhee, Dark-eyed Junco (gray-headed form), Townsend's Solitaire, Western Scrub-Jay, White-breasted Nuthatch, White-crowned Sparrow, Black-capped Chickadee, House Finch, American Robin, Black-billed Magpie, Red-tailed Hawk and American Crow.
