After going to a meeting in Longmont today, I decided to check out Union
Reservoir. The lake is borered on the south by county rd. 26, and it is
bordered on the north by county rd. 28. Lots of Bald Eagles. There were 2 ad.
Balds and there were 10 other Balds making a total of 12 Bald Eagles. The 10
other Balds were all ages from juvenile, to sub-adult I, and sub-adult II.

A group of 5 Balds were jumping up and down on the ice of the reservoir. They
looked like they were leap-frogging, while they jumped over each other. I tried
to see what these birds were feeding on and could not make a deffinate ID of
the prey, while some of the birds were attempting to look like they were
fighting. The prey was light brownish/tan. I guessed it was the remains of a
Prairie Dog.

The lake is still all frozen, with just a bit of thawed out ice in one corner.

Jim Hamm was frozen also. Besides the Eagles at Union, that was about it on the
reservoir.

Happy Birding!
