I was only able to go over to Grandview Cemetery for a few hours this morning
(arriving at 7:40am) and probably will go back this afternoon. The crossbills
did not show up until 8:40am or so, which is late. The female made two trips
into the nest between 8:40 and 9:45, while the male waited nearby. Terry and
Rebecca Ryan, Dave Steingraeber, and a jogger also saw the birds well, the
latter very well while the birds were in the ditch next to the pedestrian
footbridge. The male sang once, at 9:17, otherwise only gave occasional bursts
of call notes, or was silent. The birds give me the impression the nest is
essentially finished and they are killing time while eggs are forming prior to
the onset of laying.

There are at least three Pine Siskin nests under construction in the southeast
corner of the cemetery near the crossbill nest, and probably many more.

I forgot to mention yesterday, three Mountain Bluebirds flew over yesterday in
the morning fog, moving north to south.
