John, and others -
I photographed Cinnamon Teal along the driving tour last year during the Crane Festival. So I would venture that your guides are out of date since the teal don't seem to be. Passing by one of the ponds in the driving loop of the NWR, I photographed Northern Pintails and a Cinnamon Teal. Allaboutbirds.org and my guide both indicate that the Teal seems to be out of season, so I don't know if someone knows about a local bird or population in Monte Vista? As for the mysterious songster, I did see a Townsend's Solitaire again and it gave a soft call note. It did not make the song, but the volume of the call seemed to match the weak nature of the call I had heard earlier. Thanks to everyone who helped me try to figure out what bird it could be.
