Cobirders, Two Semipalmated Plovers were on the south shore of the pond at the new wetlands/Cottonwood Creek Wetlands at Cherry Creek SP, two mornings ago and again today about 7 am. Both were in adult nonbreeding plumage, but should be transitioning soon. Along with the plovers seen Friday, there were three peep sp. huddled together on the east shore. These birds arrived a few days earlier than shorebirds are expected here, and they are a welcome sight!
To find the wetlands, drive west on the main road from the east entrance to the park. Continue west at the crossroads, past Shop Creek Trail, to the very obvious restrooms at the north edge of the road, a parking space, and sign marked Cottonwood Creek Trail. The trailhead to the wetlands is on the south side of the road, across from the restrooms.
