Oddly, where I used to live in eastern Massachusetts, the first reports of 
migrating Common Grackles in our local area always popped up about the 3rd week 
of February, whereas they begin arriving in Colorado almost 5 weeks later. Of 
course, these are two different populations of migratory grackles, recognized 
as separate subspecies: The Bronzed Grackle in the west and the Purple Grackle 
in the East. I wonder what happens (in terms of bronzy vs purplish appearance, 
and migration timing) in the zone of overlap between these two populations, 
wherever that may be. Perhaps places like Cincinnati or Ithaca.
