The head color on an adult alternate plumaged Black-headed Gull is brown, and
not black. This might well be a good time of year to be looking for this
species. The last Black-headed Gull in the state that was seen by a lot of
people, was the adult alternate plumaged bird at Jim Hamm Pond in Boulder
County/Union Reservoir in Weld County in 1990. I saw it with Franklin's and
Bonaparte's Gulls on April 14th, and I think it was present a few days at
least, before that date.
