Yesterday a.m. I had two yellow-headed blackbirds in my feeder. Red-headed
blackbirds are common to our yard, but yellow-headed have only been seen once
before, two early Springs ago. I also observed several high in a locust tree
elsewhere in my yard. The common grackles that have been showing up the past
week were really harassing them.

I also continue to watch a pair of kestrels going in and out of a screech owl
nest box we have in a cottonwood tree. I am hoping that they will settle in
soon. I actually have delayed construction of my granddaughter's swing set in
the area near the box so as not to disrupt the interest of the kestrels. When
might they start laying eggs?
