I found one American Dipper nest partially built 3 weeks ago with one dipper nearby along the Arkansas River as of 2 weeks ago as well as a pair of American Dippers at another location.
For the past several winters 1-2 American Dippers have wintered along the Arkansas River several miles east of Canon City. This week I saw one gathering nesting material and visiting possible nest locations. I have posted photos of this dipper with a literal mouthful of nesting material on my blog at BirdsAndNature <http://BirdsAndNature.blogspot.com> I also have posted some photos on my blog of Great Horned Owls nesting in the Pueblo area that I took yesterday including one of a very cute young nestling. I have seen photos of a Trumpeter Swan that was in the Salida area 2 weeks ago. Likely the same swan was seen this week at Sands Lake in Buena Vista (remember the owner has complained of birders trespassing on the trail around the lake--it is ok to drive/walk the road and the lake can be seen legally from a few locations from the road) and this morning on a private pond in that area.
