Baca County:
--A male VERMILION FLYCATCHER was reported by Enbody at Comanche
National Grasslands, .2 miles west of the corner of RD 21 and RD J on
April 3. The bird was hanging around the fence posts and low bushes
near the house on the north side of the road.
Boulder County:
--A Sage Sparrow was reported by Blatchley at Lagerman Reservoir on
April 5 and on April 8. The bird has been seen near the restrooms.
Custer County:
--A Sage Sparrow was reported by Miller on the south side of DeWeese
Reservoir at the parking lot next to the dam on April 9.
Douglas County:
--A White-winged Dove was reported by Kilpatrick at his feeder in
Parker on April 7. The crossroads are Parker Rd and Hess Road
(Stroh's Ranch).
DouglasCounty/Jefferson County:
--A Black Phoebe was reported by Kelllner at Chatfield State Park on
April 7 and was seen again on April 9 by multiple observers. The bird
can
be located by driving in the main entrance and driving to the right
(south) along the main road. When you cross the bridge over the
Platte River park in the parking lot on the right (Platte River
parking lot). Walk towards the river and take the concrete bike path
downstream about .2 miles to where the bike path makes a sharp right
and goes back towards the road. The bird was on the left (at this
sharp bend) singing from the tops of the cottonwoods around a small
intermittent pond.
Garfield County:
--A Fox Sparrow was reported by Filby on April 8. The bird was
sInging in his backyard.
Grand County:
--A Black Rosy-finch was reported by Binkley at feeders just outside
of Grand Lake on April 2.
Huerfano County:
--All three species of rosy finches were reported by Jensen at the
home of Beverly Jensen in La Veta on April 1. Call 719-989-1398 to
arrange a visit.
Larimer County:
--An Eastern Phoebe was reported by Wild just south of Cattail Pond in
SE Loveland on April 3.
--A pair of White-winged Crossbills was observed by Leatherman feeding
two babies on April 9. The birds were first reported by Leatherman at
Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins on November 22. Location: it is
the very
tall blue spruce on the ditchbank due north of the little lime green
pumphouse in the extreme southeast corner of Grandview Cemetery, west
end of Mountain Avenue in Fort Collins.
The nest, which is essentially not visible, is about half way up the
tree on the south side.
Two birders have been hit by golf balls from two different tees, so this
area is dangerous. Best place to stand is on the southeast side of the
pumphouse, and protect yourself from the tee to the east by standing
on the
west side of the little mesh screen strung between two black poles.
Visitors should note the real potential for golf ball damage to
vehicles if
they park near the corner. When you first get there, figuring out
where the spot is, parking somewhere else, and walking over to the
corner would probably be best. Remember not to park on the grass,
block roads, or otherwise interfere with the cemetery operations. The
cemetery and golf course staffs are being very patient and accepting.
We need to keep on good terms with them.
Pitkin County:
--All three species of rosy-finches were reported by Filby at the
Snowmass Ski area on April 6. The ski area lifts close after Sunday,
April 11.
Pueblo County:
--A female Northern Parula was reported by Percival at Chico Basin
Ranch Headquarters on April 8. Note, Chico is a fee area.
--An Eastern Phoebe and a Black Phoebe were reported by Percival at
Valco Ponds on April 3.
Rio Grande County:
--A TUNDRA SWAN was reported by Rawinsky on the Auto Tour Loop at
Monte Vista NWR on April 6 and on April 9.
Summit County:
--6 Barrow's Goldeneye were reported by Nims at Angler Mountsin Ranch
Pond in Silverthorne on April 8.
Teller County:
--Gray-crowned Rosy-finches were reported by Taylor in the backyard of
101 Stephanie Place in Divide on April 3. Please view the birds from
the road west of the house (Joshua Road) - they are visible without
trespassing. The birds like to roost in the large ponderosa nearest to
Joshua Road.
Washington County:
--A Black-and-White Warbler was reported by Walbek at the Last Chance
Rest Area on April 9.
Weld County:
--A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was reported by Shade at Crow Valley
Campground on April 9. The bird was seem south of the main (larger)
restroom, in the trees along the fence.
