Douglas County/Jefferson County:
--A Black Phoebe was reported by Kelllner at Chatfield State Park on
April 7 and was seen again on April 11 by Sanders. The bird can be located by driving in the main entrance and driving to the right south) along the main road. When you cross the bridge over the Platte River park in the parking lot on the right (Platte River
parking lot). Walk towards the river and take the concrete bike path
downstream about .2 miles to where the bike path makes a sharp right
and goes back towards the road. The bird was on the left (at this
sharp bend) singing from the tops of the cottonwoods around a small
intermittent pond. If the bird is not in that area, it has also been
reported just downstream from the Kingfisher bridge and was seen from
the bridge.

El Paso County:
--A Northern Paula (possible hybrid) was reported by Maynard at the Casita at Chico Basin Ranch on April 11.

--Garfield County:

Larimer County:
--A GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL and a Lesser Black-backed Gull was reported by Riffe at the Weld County Landfill on April 10.
--A pair of White-winged Crossbills was observed by Leatherman feeding
two babies on April 9. The birds were first reported by Leatherman at
Grandview Cemetery in Fort Collins on November 22. Location: it is
the very tall blue spruce on the ditchbank due north of the little
lime green pumphouse in the extreme southeast corner of Grandview
Cemetery, west end of Mountain Avenue in Fort Collins.
The nest, which is essentially not visible, is about half way up the
tree on the south side.

Two birders have been hit by golf balls from two different tees, so this
area is dangerous. Best place to stand is on the southeast side of the
pumphouse, and protect yourself from the tee to the east by standing on the west side of the little mesh screen strung between two black poles.

Visitors should note the real potential for golf ball damage to vehicles if they park near the corner. When you first get there figuring out where the spot is, parking somewhere else, and walking over to the corner would probably be best. Remember not to park on the grass, block roads, or otherwise interfere with the cemetery operations. The cemetery and golf course staffs are being very patient and accepting. We need to keep on good terms with them.

Montezuma County:
--A Black Phoebe was reported by Garrison at J Road bridge in McElmo
on April 10.

Pitkin County:
--All three species of rosy-finches were reported by Filby at the
Snowmass Ski area on April 6. The ski area lifts close after Sunday,
April 11.

Pueblo County:
--A female Northern Parula was reported by Koehn and Cresswell at Chico Basin Ranch Headquarters on April 8. Note, Chico is a fee area.
--An Eastern Phoebe and a Black Phoebe were reported by Percival at
Valco Ponds on April 3. The Black Phoebe was seen again by Percival on April 11. The bird was west of Valco Ponds parking lot, near the building with the chain link fence.

Rio Grande County:
--A TUNDRA SWAN was reported by Rawinsky on the Auto Tour Loop at
Monte Vista NWR on April 6 and on April 10.

Summit County:
--6 Barrow's Goldeneye were reported by Nims at Angler Mountain Ranch
Pond in Silverthorne on April 8.

Teller County:
--Gray-crowned Rosy-finches were reported by Taylor in the backyard of
101 Stephanie Place in Divide on April 3. Please view the birds from
the road west of the house (Joshua Road) - they are visible without
trespassing. The birds like to roost in the large ponderosa nearest to
Joshua Road.

Washington County:
--A Black-and-White Warbler was reported by Walbek at the Last Chance
Rest Area on April 9.

Weld County:
--A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was reported by Shade at Crow Valley
Campground on April 9 and by numerous observers on April 10. The bird has been seem south of the main (larger) restroom, in the trees along the fence. It has also been seen between just south of the picnic area and the southwest corner.
--A Swamp Sparrow was reported by Walbek at the SW corner of Crow
Valley Campground on April 10.

The DFO field trip for Saturday, April 17 is to Barr Lake State Park, led by Bob Andrews (303-249-5220). Parks Pass needed. Meet at 0730 at Nature Center. From Denver take East I-76 to Bromley Lane, exit 22. Go east to Piccadilly Road, turn south for about 2 miles to Park Entrance. Bob co-authored, with Bob Righter, Birds of Colorado. We’re glad to have him in our leader lineup! Lunch optional. May bird into the afternoon.

The DFO trip for Sunday April 18 is to Dinosaur Ridge Hawk Watch, led by Tim Smart (303-439-9627). Meet at 0800. Exit I-70 at Morrison. Go south to first parking lot on left after freeway entrance. Scope would be helpful! There is steep uphill walk to the ridge. Length of trip will depend on weather and number of migrants moving. Tim has had over 20 years of hawk watch counting in many locations across the country – so we’ll be in good hands!!

Good Birding,
