There is a Great Horned Owl nest east of Handle and Baggett roads, which is
east of Ellicott and south off of Hwy 94 and the Baggett intersection (just
east of mile marker 19). It was quite a surprise to see an owl in the nest,
as it has always been used by Red-tailed Hawks - or so I thought. Plus,
this tree is all by itself and completely out in the open. It is
very obvious to see that there are owls in the nest, as one has always been
sitting up, with nothing to obstruct its view. However, I have only clearly
seen one owl - and only the tail feathers of the other. What a surprise to
see them in this nest.
