We have a pair of Ospreys in the area. they can be seen around the lake and
also flying about over Weld County Road 5, south of the lake. The pair of Bald
Eagles are still here as well.

Depending on the time of day, the lake can be swarming with Western and Clark's
Grebes, occasional Horned Grebe, lots of different kinds of ducks and teals,
pelicans, various gulls, etc. In the evening, they tend to congregate over on
the northwest area of the lake. There are mating dances going on amongst the
Grebes. Until recent years, the Grebes would move on after a few weeks, but now
they are breeding and raising young here. Ditto for the Double crested
Cormorants. We always have at least four bachelor Great Blue Heron's spending
the summer with us, but other than flyovers, I haven't seen any setting up
residence yet.

This am, there was a white faced ibis in the slough on Weld County Road 5, just
north of Hwy. 66. It was on the west side of the road, very near the road. It
was alone.

The trees are alive with birds, haven't seen any warblers yet, but it is only a
matter of time.

The lake is finally being filled, so less shoreline, but there is still plenty
on the western side of the lake. The lake is private but open to the public.
There is a charge for fishing and boating (wakeless), but this early in the
season, I do not think they are charging for the picnic area, especially on
week days, but I'm not sure. There is free parking along the road near the
access to the west shore area. Be careful if you try to drive into the west
shore area. There are a lot of underground springs, plus with the increase in
water, people are always getting stuck in the mud.
