Hi COBirders,

Much better today. Good report today for the banding station area at Chico
Basin Ranch (El Paso Co section). Calm early, then light winds - and no
blowout! Lots of birds moving through the woods all day - and the cottonwoods
and Russian Olives are actually getting GREEN!.

We banded several birds early, then after an hour lull, things picked up again,
and there seemed to be steady bird arrivals throughout the day, with midday
arrivals of Orange-crowned Warblers, (seen), Black-headed Grosbeak (FOS - f
seen), Rose-breasted Grosbeak (FOS, f seen), ), FOS Lazuli Bunting (m -
banded), and FOS Swainson's Thrush (finally!), 3 banded. We had 2-3 birds in
the nets at a time, steadily, until closing at about 1:30. What might this
change in weather tonight do for us?

Also seen - the banded Red-breasted Nuthatch, FOS Yellow Warbler, FOS Northern
Waterthrush (seen and heard, White-crowned Sparrows, Lincoln's Sparrow,
Broad-tailed and Black-chinned Hummingbirds, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Brown
Thrasher, and a Western Meadowlark getting tantalizingly close to the net lanes.

Banded today: 28 new birds

House Wren - 3
Swainson's Thrush - 3
Hermit Thrush - 2
Orange-crowned Warbler - 6
Yellow-rumped Warbler -11 (Audubon's, Myrtle, and intergrades, with more
females today)
Com Yellowthroat - 1 (m)
Chipping Sparrow - 1
Lazuli Bunting - 1 (m)
