After reading Alison's report from Red Rocks, I decided to try it out with my
8-year old daughter and her friend. The place was really birdy including with
Gnatcatchers, Virginia Warblers, lots of Orange-crowns, Yellow-rumps, Empidonax
Flycatcher ( not the Gray), and Black-throated Gray Warbler. There was
probably more but the rain came down and the girls were ready to go. After
seeing the Cassin's Vireo at Welchester and a very birdy Belmar (Eastern
Kingbird) , I came home to the backyard in Lakewood. The yard was birdy as
well with Spotted Towhee, Lazuli Bunting, White-crowned Sparrows, Wilson's
Warbler, Orange-crowned Warbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Black-chinned
Hummingbird, Broad-tailed Hummingbird, and Lincoln's Sparrow. The flood gates
have indeed opened!! Photos of the Cassin's and Black-throated Gray can be
seen in the Rare and Uncommon gallery below.
