Dear Cobirders,
This morning, Nathan Pieplow and I birded the Twin Lakes Open
Space in Gunbarrel. At the beginning of the walk, it seemed as though numbers
would be low, but quantity was again made up for with quality as we found at
least 2 che-bek'ing Least Flycatchers (could be as many as 4), 1 very vocal and
visible Gray Flycatcher, 1 Swainson's Thrush and 1 White-throated Sparrow.
Warbler diversity was down, with only Common Yellowthroats, Yellow-rumped
Warblers and Orange-crowned Warblers.
The Twin Lakes Open Space is located on Nautilus Dr. in Gunbarrel. If you are
planning on taking the Diagonal Highway (CO 119) to get here be advised that
the road from 119 to 63rd St. is closed for construction, so use Jay Rd. if
possible.
Weather models are still predicting a southerly flow for tonight becoming
westward by tomorrow morning. This should make for a nice mini-fallout; be
sure to get out early!
Cheers,
Walter Szeliga
