The Canon City Riverwalk was still rockin yesterday with hundreds of
Yellow-rumps, continuing good numbers of MacGillivrays, increasing numbers
of Yellow and Wilson's, lesser numbers of Orange-crowned and Virginia's
Warblers, Common Yellowthroats and Chats. I found my first Green Heron of
the year feeding at a stormwater drain outlet into the Arkansas River.
Along the bluff trail were a FOY Indigo Bunting, Lincoln's Sparrow (or 2)
and Olive-sided Flycatcher. Though I saw a flock of over a hundred Chipping
Sparrows south of Canon City last week, I didn't see any on the Riverwalk
until yesterday. A Say's Phoebe joined the chorus with Black-headed
Grosbeak, Lazuli Buntings, Gray Catbirds and continuing Evening Grosbeak.
Western Tanagers continue to be common in the forested areas.

Today was relatively quiet as many warblers apparently moved out last night
or this morning after the rain showers cleared up--except I again saw 4-5
MacGillivray's Warblers in less than 3/4 mile of trail. However, most of
the non-warbler species were still around in good numbers including at least
4 Swainson's Thrush still hanging around together, and several Dusky
Flycatchers that appear to have stayed around.
