Baca County: --On May 25, Maynard reported a pair of Summer Tanagers from Carrizo Canyon. Bent County: --On May 24, Nelson reported a sub-adult male VERMILION FLYCATCHER at an abandoned homestead in Toonerville. Drive south on Colorado Highway 101 to where the pavement ends, turn west, and look in trees near the homestead. Maynard relocated this bird on the 25. This is private property, and should not be entered without permission. --On May 25, Maynard reported a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER about 14.5 miles south of Las Animas. When you pass mile post 14, start looking for a homestead on the left. Boulder County: --On May 29, Guarente reports a LESSER NIGHTHAWK at Walden Ponds. They were around the northwest corner of Duck Pond also around the building where all the trails converge. --A Little Blue Heron was reported by Lamoureux at Cottonwood Marsh in the NW corner on May 16. Continues through May 26. --On May 24, Arp reported a LEAST BITTERN from the second Sawhill Pond west of the intersection of the road/trails/sign just a short distance beyond the end of the boardwalk. Fremont County: --A TRICOLORED HERON was reported by Miller at Holcim Marsh on May 18. The marsh is about a mile west of the Holcim cement plant on SR 120, near Penrose. The heron was seen on May 22 by Chartier. Jefferson county: --On May 29, Fischer and Krebs reported a Northern Parula from Prospect Park, Wheatridge. The bird was approximately 300 yards upstream from the parking lot. Kit Carson county: --On May 30, Breitsch reported a singing male Black-throated Blue Warbler from below the dam at Flagler SWA. They also report a Yellow-billed Cuckoo from below the dam. Larimer County: --On May 25, Dillion reported a White-eyed Vireo on Cub Lake trail in RMNP. --An EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE was reported by Leatherman at Grandview Cemetery on May 22. A second bird was reported the following day. --On May 24, Roederer reported a female Hooded Warbler just before the parking lot at Sprague Lake off of Bear Lake Rd. in RMNP. Also at this location later in the day a others discovered a Magnolia Warbler and an American Redstart. Pueblo County: --On May 26, Percival reported a female Blue-winged Warbler from the eastern end of the Osprey Picnic area along the river. Maynard was able to relocate this bird along the bike path near the wooden bridge east of the Osprey Picnic area. --On May 26, Percival reported an EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE singing along the gravel trail on the west side of Osprey Picnic Area near the river. Maynard was able to relocate this bird just south of the parking lot. Washington County: --On May 25, at Prewitt Reservoir, Jones reported an EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE from the inlet canal in the southeast corner. Dunning reports the continued presence on May 29. Weld County: --On May 25, Kibbe reported a Black Swift in the Keota area. --A Veery was reported by Kaempfer at Crow Valley CG on May 25. --A Black-and-white Warbler was reported by Kaempfer at Crow Valley CG on May 24. The DFO field trip for Saturday, May 22 will be to Rigli Ranch led by Joe Rigli (970-568-7121). Meet the leader at the ranch by 0830. From Hudson, go east on CO 52 until it turns north. Don't turn north, but continue east on Morgan County Road F to CR 14, turn north for approximately one mile to the first house on left by boxcars. Bring lunch and extra water. The DFO field trip for Sunday, May 23 will be to McCabe Meadows Park (formerly Parker Regional Park) led by Steve Kennedy (303-772-6048). Meet at 0730 for 1/2 day trip. From Main Street intersection in Parker, take Hwy 83 south for 1.2 miles. Turn right onto Indian Pipe Lane to parking lot on the right. The park is on the west side of the road.
