Dave Leatherman's post from June 3 got me optimistic to get this bird while I'm visiting your beautiful state, so I went to Grandview Cemetery this afternoon. When I finally figured out where the SE corner of Section 1 is, I started toward the spruce there. Within 20 feet of the trunk, a bird flew from the ground to the lowest limb, about 8 feet off the ground. I put up my binoculars and was looking dead on at the female White-winged Crossbill. Talk about luck. I snapped 4 or 5 photos before she flew higher into the tree. If anyone needs the photos for documentation, they're time and date stamped, and I'd be happy to send them.
