Here is the schedule for COBBAII events happening in June. Hope to
see you out there!
Trainings
Location: Region 19 (Pueblo Area)
Date: Saturday, June 19
Time: 8:00 a.m. – noon
If you have been thinking of volunteering to help, but you’re just not
sure what it’s all about or if you’re capable, join this on-site
training day in an actual atlas block. Mark Yaeger will walk you
through the basics and answer any questions you may have. You can do
it!! Meet at the Duck Pond in Pueblo City Park to carpool. Contact
Mark at 545-8407/543-2724.
Blockbusters / Rendezvous
Date: Saturday–Sunday June 12–13
Location: Northeastern Colorado (Various Blocks and Regions)
Time/Place: 7 a.m., Arriba Highway I-70 rest stop
Leader(s): Urling & Hugh Kingery
Description: This weekend, all across the state (especially the
plains), Atlasers will work in untouched blocks far from where most of
us live. When we meet in Arriba, we’ll assign blocks north of I-70 to
various groups. You can go home that day or spend the night either in
a motel in Burlington or camping in Bonny State Park. In Burlington on
Sunday, we’ll also split into groups to Atlas various blocks. Enjoy an
“adventure” in the prairie part of the state. Bring binoculars, scope,
field guides, water, lunches (all meals if you camp), and overnight
gear if stay overnight. Pre-Registration is required, with leader.
Details from Urling & Hugh Kingery, 303-814-2723, [email protected].
Date: Friday–Saturday June 11–12
Location: Saddle Mountain priority block (Pagosa Springs area,
Atlas Region 10)
Time/Place: Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m., East Fork Campground, off
Highway 160
Leader(s): Lynn Wickersham
Description: Join Atlas II Coordinator Lynn Wickersham for a 2-day
blockbusting adventure in the beautiful San Juan River Valley between
Pagosa Springs and Wolf Creek Pass. We’ll do our best to complete the
block but we have some large shoes to fill, as a total of 91 species
were reported in this block during Atlas I!!! Field training will be
available to new volunteers. Camping is available in the East Fork
Campground (first come, first serve), and motels are abound in nearby
Pagosa Springs. Come for a day or stay overnight and listen for owls.
Contact Lynn Wickersham for details, 970-247-7245,
[email protected].
Date: Friday–Sunday June 18–20
Location: Homestake Reservoir priority block (Atlas Region 13)
Time/Place: TBA
Leader(s): Chuck Hundertmark
Fees: None except camping fees
Description: Mark your calendar to join other Colorado Breeding Bird
Atlas volunteers for a weekend rendezvous at Turquoise Lake June
18-20, 2010. Just west of Leadville, the Homestake Reservoir-SE atlas
block has not yet been worked. We’ll try to complete the block. Field
training will be available to new volunteers. The May Queen campground
is in the block. A few sites are still available for online
reservations (http://www.recreation.gov/welcome.do?topTabIndex=Home).
There are additional campgrounds along the eastern side of the
reservoir a short drive from the atlas block. The regional coordinator
will bring chili for Saturday night dinner. Camp for the weekend or
come out for a day. Please let the RC know by June 15 if you plan to
join us. Meeting times/place will be emailed the week of the
rendezvous. Contact Chuck Hundertmark, 303-604-0531 or [email protected].
