Besides for the alternate plumage Red-necked Grebe (thanks to Mark Peterson for
posting it yesterday) on the east side of Walden Reservoir yesterday, birds
found in North Park in Jackson County were typical.
There's lots of water at Arapaho N.W.R. Auto Loop in Jackson County. There
were plenty of breeding ducks, including Canvasback, Lesser Scaup, Redhead,
Ruddy Duck, Cinnamon Teal, Blue-winged Teal, Northern Shoveler, American
Wigeon, Gadwall, and Mallard. Also, there were Willets, Wilson's Phalaropes,
American Avocets, and Killdeer. Eared Grebes were thick. In the sage there
were Sage Thrashers, Brewer's Sparrows, and Vesper Sparrows.
Also, in Walden Reservoir area in Jackson County, there were lots of breeding
California Gulls, a Forster's Tern, a Snowy Egret, Western Grebes, Eared
Grebes, and a very cooperative Sora.
The feeders at the Moose Vistior Center, inside the Colorado State Forest State
Park, along Hwy 14, west of Cameron Pass in Jackson County, there were Cassin's
Finches, Pine Siskins, Steller's Jays, and a beautiful male Lazuli Bunting.
Good birding,
Brandon Percival
