RE: Volunteer Opportunity/Looking for Volunteers

Hello,
I'm writing you today, to tell you about Wild Bird Information and
Rehabilitation of Denver (B.I.R.D) and ask you for help finding
desperately-needed volunteers to get us through the 2010 season.
Wild B.I.R.D is a Colorado 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to maintain
a rehabilitation center to provide intensive care to sick, injured and
orphaned birds. Wild birds play an important part in our eco-system. They
maintain the delicate balance of nature by controlling many forms of insects
that are harmful to vegetation and humans, and they provide an early warning
system for environmental contaminates and diseases. Wild B.I.R.D's
secondary objective is to educate the public on the importance of wild bird
welfare and their role within our environment, and to teach the importance
of conservation and protection of birds within the state of Colorado.
Additionally, I have personally experienced how the Wild B.I.R.D center also
provides a community service to Denver Metro and surrounding areas as I've
see people of all ages get to the center in distress - and leave with a
sense of relief that there was a place for them to take the precious cargo
they desperately sought to save.
While keeping one of the highest release rates in the country, Wild B.I.R.D
operates on a shoestring budget funded by community donations. Since
opening its doors in 2000, Wild B.I.R.D. has sheltered, rehabilitated and
released more than 10,000 birds into the parks and open spaces around
Denver. More than 80 species of songbirds and migratory birds are included
in those treated. Last year alone provided care for over 3500 birds that
were brought to the center and this year we are just short of treating 1000
birds, and this is the slow part of the 5 month season. Success has come
through working closely with local veterinarians, the Colorado Department of
Wildlife and numerous local organizations that also share our concerns;
however our success will be limited, without the support of un-paid
volunteers.
It is it this reason that I'm asking for your support in hopes of finding
reliable people who would be committed to pledging at least one day a week
until September 1st to volunteer at the center. Those who can do more will
be working directly with the birds in our care and performing one of the
most important duties- keeping the residents fed and alive.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Please let me know if you have
questions.
