Birders,

Today, Tammy and I rambled around Weld County. Here are the highlights:

Dickcissel - WCR 54 ~ 1/4 mi west of WCR 17. We had just bailed off I 25
and a massive traffic jam. I heard it but we couldn't find it when we went
back.

Norma's Grove - NO Black-billed Cuckoo. I tried 2 days. Must be gone.

Blue Grosbeak pair.

WCR 120 3 mi west of Grover - Checked for the Hud Godwits reported on the
13th. No luck.

Only found Avocets and Mountain Plover. 1st plovers I've been able to find
in Weld Co this year.

Closer to Grover and over a swollen creek (Crow Creek??) was an Orchard
Oriole.

Pawnee Buttes - The wind farm on the Buttes is an abomination upon the
landscape.

Prairie Falcon, Rock Wrens, Mockingbird, Say's Phoebe.

South of the Buttes - Lots of McCown's Longspurs. Could not find a
Chestnut-collared Longspur all day.

Hwy 14, just east of WCR 83 in a flooded field on the north side of the
road:

60 Pintail. I don't believe I have ever seen this many Pintails in one spot
in Colorado before.

2 Wilson's Phalaropes

Crow Valley Campground: The water is higher than 2 weeks ago. The Eastern
Screech-Owl was not out sunning.

The mosquitoes were vicious. They saw me coming and sharpened their
probosci (real word??). Could only stay a few minutes. The mosquitoes
probably accounted for the limited number of campers.
