OK, I know it has been a few weeks since I originally posted that I spotted a mystery bird in my trees across from Highland Lake. Well I saw it again today, and got a better look at it. It almost appears to be a cross between a Bullock Oriole and a Baltimore Oriole. I say that because it has more black on its head that a Bullock, and a smattering of yellow on its wings. Its breast is that wonderful orange color. One thing really puzzles me though. It seems too small to be an oriole, but then it was flying up high and I didn't have a measuring stick. <smile>
I spotted it in almost the same area as before, so I'm wondering since it is still here weeks later, if it might not have a nest somewhere up in my cottonwoods or Silver Maples. The Mulberries are ripe, the cherries are not far behind. Lots of birds taking advantage of the bounty, but other than the one mentioned above, I haven't seen anything unusual yet - unless a few drunk Robins count.
