McIntosh Lake, Longmont, Boulder County, CO
The Pacific Loon reported early in July by Mike Blatchley is still present as
of
6pm on Tuesday. It was only 35 feet off the dike on the southwest side of the
lake just past where the dike bends toward the northwest. If I had my camera
the shots would have been almost full frame. The bird is quite the sight at
such short range. That's possibly the best viewing I will ever get of a
Pacific
Loon in Colorado. When you can see the color of the birds eye (dark reddish
brown), you know you are close. Watched the loon for over a half an hour and
it
moved between 30 and 40 feet from shore. Quite a rewarding bird to study.
Thanks Mike for the original post and to others for continuing to post
sightings
of it.
