Yesterday I found a young Green Heron on a farm pond at my friend's place
near Canon City. It is in juvenal plumage but still has a few pin feathers
so is pretty young. I have uploaded several super close-up photos, that I
took from less than 20 feet using my car as a blind, to my

I also have Black-looking and intermediate plumaged probable hybrid Eastern
X Black Phoebes there. I spotted the first one just over a week ago then
saw it and another phoebe appearing to bring food to a likely (but
inaccessible) nest site last Saturday. I was lucky to be there when at
least 2, maybe 3, young phoebes fledged. I have followed the family daily
since then as they have moved the fledglings downstream, this morning about
1/2 mile from the probable nest site (not bad for 4 day old phoebes to fly
this far). I have also found possibly 2 aults further upstream-one may be
one of the parent birds as it is common for one parent to take the
offspring. I have a lot of photos but haven't had time to upload them to my
blog yet.
