The DFO field trip to Cherry Creek State Park, Arapahoe County, Saturday August
14. We had good looks at an Ash-throated Flycatcher from the field south of
the campground. Park at the laundry/restroom building and walk south past the
amphitheater. It was in the row of Russian olive and cottonwood trees along
the south edge of the campground. Later we sited Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary,
Spotted, & Least Sandpipers, L-B Dowitcher and Snipe, Virginia Rail. The 3
best places for shorebirds were the southeast corner of the main Lake, the pond
south of 12 Mile picnic area, and the new Cottonwood Creek wetlands south of
model airplane field.
