I had a great, amusing look this morning near US 85 and Titan Road of
a Juvenile Cooper's Hawk wanting really badly to take down a squirrel
that was fearlessly sharing a split-rail fence with it. The squirrel
was much more concerned with the huge walnut he'd found than the
predator following him from post to post. The hawk looked like a kid
at the pool wanting to dive into the deep end, but losing his nerve
every time it came down to it.

I've only ever seen Coopers take small to medium-sized birds. Will a
mature Cooper's take prey as large as a fat surburban squirrel?
