Hi Birders,
RMBO staff and volunteers, with great assistance from the Barr Lake State Park
folks, have been hard at work the past week preparing for fall banding at Barr
Lake. The official opening is this coming Saturday, August 28. That is also
the date of RMBO’s annual BBQ with the Birds. There are great activities
planned for everyone in the family. Visit www.rmbo.org for details.
Barr Lake has been hot and buggy, but there have been lots of birds too, and
fall migration is here. We opened the third of our nets that were up (~10
nets) for about 3 hours each Saturday and Sunday morning, and caught almost 80
birds over the 2 days, a nice variety of summer residents and migrants, common
and not-so:
Willow Flycatcher 1
Warbling Vireo 1
Black-capped Chickadee 1
House Wren 12
Nashville Warbler 1
Yellow Warbler 18 new, 2 returns (from 2008 and 06)
Townsend’s Warbler 3
Northern Waterthrush 1
Wilson’s Warbler 32
Western Tanager 1
Chipping Sparrow 4
We will be open 6 days a week, weather permitting, from August 28 through
October 17. We will let you know through our regular postings to COBirds which
weekday each week we will be closed. Or you can contact me directly by e-mail.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the station this fall!
