Hello, Birders.

Nice to see all the reports last night, Tuesday, August 24th, about
moonwatching across the Front Range region.

At 11:33 p.m. last night night, I heard an Upland Sandpiper flying over
Lafayette, Boulder County.

For those who seek Upland Sandpiper in Boulder County, here's the low-down on
my detections of the species in the county:

July 30th, 2009. 3:34 a.m.
August 20th, 2009. 4:45 a.m.
August 25th, 2009. 5:04 a.m.
July 31st, 2010. 4:09 a.m.
August 14th, 2010. 4:18 a.m.
August 24th, 2010. 11:33 p.m.

There's definitely a pattern emerging...

Meanwhile, the nocturnal landbird flight earlier this morning, Wednesday,
August 25th, was so-so in terms of number (40 flight calls per hour), but, as
the day before, diversity was decent. Wilson's Warblers predominated, as is
typical for this time of the year. (And I note that grounded Wilson's Warblers
were constantly audible during the daylight hours yesterday and also thus far
this morning; just open up your window and listen.) Otherwise, it was a
hodgepoge of warbler/sparrow "seep" notes this morning, plus a few presumed
Bullock's Orioles and a nice Western Meadowlark.

The peak period for detectable nocturnal migration in Colorado is right
now--the last week of August into the first week of September. I used to think
that stormy "upslope" weather in May was the most exciting birding in Colorado,
but I know it's quiet nights with light northerly winds in August.
